For the golfers amongst you, there are splendid courses in Périgueux and Limoges. For tennis players, there are courts available locally. For the fisherman, there is a barbecue stand on which to cook your delicious freshly caught fish. The large rivers, many streams and brooks contain several types fish including trout. There are also local lakes which cater for pike and carp fishermen.In Thiviers, a 15 minute car journey away, you will find many regional culinary specialities including the famous foie grass. In Sorges, the truffle museum explains this legendary “”black gold of cookery”” which is the gastronomic trump card of the department of the Dordogne
Our immediate area of the Périgord is a splendid historic region of France with many rivers such as the L'Isle, the dreamy Dronne and the savage Auvézère, beautiful forests of oaks and chestnuts, and lovely rolling hills. The undulating landscape reflects something new each day for you to discover.
The summer months here are agreeably warm. Also in the winter months, is it still warm enough to sit outside on our protected terrace and enjoy a traditional aniseed aperitif of Pastis.
There are endless excursion possibilities. This region has something for everyone.
Water is present everywhere in the form of springs, brooks, rivers and lakes. There are many outside sporting activities in this region’s attractive”, hilly and varied landscape. Walking, horse riding, climbing, all-terrain-biking and canoeing are ideal sports with which to explore the area. We will gladly lend you our own bicycles and tell you of the splendid routes to follow.
Châlus is close to our Estate. Chalus castle is where the English king, Richard the Lionheart, is reputed to have died following his injury on the battlefield in 1199. You can follow the famous route of Richard the Lionheart which plots his journey along his army’s lines of defence. This route takes you to many castles, interesting villages and places of interest.
You can test your luck by panning for gold in the river below the castle in Jumilhac-le-Grand (visit the gold museum). The castle of Jumilhac-le-Grand is well worth a visit and in summer you can take a guided tour with an English speaking guide, available daily.
